How structured data can help your website

Structured Data is a coding practise that enhances parts of your website and displays it on the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). Google uses these enhancements to better understand the content of the page. These ‘rich snippets’ allow you to provide more information to the user giving you a great chance of being click on.

As well as the usual Title, Description and URL, these rich snippets can appear as Star ratings, Prices, Contact details, Product condition and much more. These details should be added to all products in your online store. These is no guarantee that Google pick up every enhancement you make, but it still worth doing.

Structured Data example code

    <title>Best Cookies</title>
    <script type="application/ld+json">
      "@context": "",
      "@type": "Recipe",
      "name": "White Choc Cookies",
      "author": {
        "@type": "Person",
        "name": "Katie Day"
      "datePublished": "2020-10-01",
      "description": "Delicious white chocolate cookies.",
      "prepTime": "PT15M"
  <h2>Delicious white chocolate cookies</h2>
    Easy to make delicious white chocolate cookies.

So why are these important?

Google strives to deliver the best, most relevant results to its users. The better we can structure our pages to highlight facts and features, the better Google can understand their content and are more likely to show those page on the SERP.

You can see from the example above, that they have visual benefits. Instantly, you can see the price of the product in the example above also that it is ‘In stock’. These visual triggers will influence users to click on them.

Another example of structured data is tabled data. This page has structured the technical data regarding a product in a table and Google, thinking the information is relevant, has displayed the details on the SERP.
